The Lurie Building , located in the Carmel Arts & Design District, is a public/private partnership between the Carmel Redevelopment Commission and Stenz Development Corporation. It is a mixed-use building comprised of the Evan Lurie Fine Art Gallery, second floor office space, and “The Renaissance” penthouse residential condominiums on the third and fourth floors. It is a new four-story masonry structure creatively designed by CSO Schenkel Shultz. The intricate window, masonry and canopy architectural details compliment the atmosphere of Old Town Carmel. The design was based on the national chain of S.H. Kress Variety Stores built during the first half of the 20 th century. Samuel Kress, an avid art collector, erected stores throughout the nation which aspired to be beautiful buildings that were more ornate and elegantly appointed than the stores of his competitors. And the Kress Variety Stores have since come to be highly regarded by architectural scholars. The Lurie Building recalls the rich legacy of civic pride and artistic ideals of early 20th century Kress Variety Stores.

The Renaissance Penthouse Condominiums are designed to combine the sophistication of a cosmopolitan lifestyle with the conveniences of suburban living. The name, Renaissance, was chosen for the four penthouses because of the exciting rebirth now being experienced in the heart of Old Town Carmel. Each unit has been named in honor of a distinguished artist from this enlightened period: Rembrandt, Raphael, Michelangelo and Botticelli. Each townhouse residence features a private elevator, large rooftop garden terrace and two enclosed private parking spaces. The spacious 3000+ square foot penthouse condominiums boast unique amenities including hardwood floors, architect series windows, fireplaces, custom built-in cabinets and designer trims and finishes. The grand entry foyer is well appointed with stately columns and granite floors. The kitchens have upgraded stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, porcelain tile floors and a raised ceilings. The master baths house designer steeping tubs and glass-enclosed showers. The Renaissance Condominiums start at $650,000 with expected occupancy to be early 2007. |
